If you are seeking a powerful and permanent weight loss surgery, Duodenal Switch Surgery might be a viable option for you.
How Duodenal Switch Weight Loss Surgery is Performed
Duodenal Switch Stomach Surgery is a surgical weight loss procedure that offers an alternative to traditional Gastric Bypass Surgery. With Duodenal Switch, the stomach is divided and a sleeve gastrectomy is performed on the stomach. Approximately 75% of the stomach is removed which limits the amount of food one can consume. After the stomach tissue is removed the sleeved stomach is then connected below the duodenum which preserves the pyloric valve (which regulates the emptying of the stomach). Because the pyloric valve is left intact, individuals aren’t at risk to experience “dumping syndrome”.
Duodenal Switch surgery is very successful for patients deemed morbidly obese, and who have a BMI greater than 55. Duodenal Switch surgery may not be a good option for individual’s who suffer from heart conditions due to the complexity of the procedure.
Unlike traditional Gastric Bypass surgeries which can be reduced or repaired if necessary, Duodenal Switch surgery is permanent.
